LAND Delivery Service
LAND Steering Committee Formed
As Nylink prepares to wind down its operations, plans are being put into place to secure a new home for LAND or its alternative. A statewide delivery transition steering committee has been formed to explore all alternatives. Members of the group and the constituency that they represent are:
- Ed Rivenburgh (IDS)
- Gary Thompson (ConnectNY)
- Loretta Ebert (New York State Library)
- Mary Beth Krupczak (New York State Library Division of Library Development)
- Carey Hatch (SUNY Office of Library & Information Services)
- Curtis Kendrick (CUNY)
- John Shaloiko (Reference and Research Library Resources Systems-NY3Rs)
- Kathleen Gundrum (Nylink)
As plan progress, information will be shared. If you have comments, questions or concerns, please direct them to Kathleen Gundrum ( ).

My library uses the LAND delivery service—will it continue to operate?
LAND service will continue to be available to current users through the expiration of Nylink's current contract with its courier on 12/31/2010. We will work to find an appropriate organization that may operate a service like LAND for New York libraries.
LAND is a closed delivery system, administered by Nylink, that allows libraries to send and receive an unlimited amount of material to other participating libraries. There are 110 LAND participants across New York state, including academic, public and health sciences libraries, and the New York State Library.
Our goal is to provide timely access to the collective library resources of LAND participants.
Advantages of the service:
- Fixed costs: unlimited shipping for one annual fee means easy budgeting for delivery needs.
- Fast: rapid turn-around time.
- Green: quick, easy and reusable packaging.
- Need more bags or ties?
- We will have to confirm your request by emailing you before the bags are sent.

Nylink's LAND (Libraries and Nylink Deliver) service has 110 participating libraries across New York. Over 350,000 items are delivered each year. Each one of those items meets a need, helping library patrons do original research, read widely in their field, and broaden their perspectives. This critical function of LAND is illustrated by a slightly silly video.
Interested in Joining LAND?
Participants in LAND commit to using the service on an annual basis. Charges for LAND are calculated and billed quarterly. If your library is interested in joining LAND, please contact Jon Penn at Nylink. Check the links below for more information that might help your library make a decision.
