Your Research ROI (Return on Investment): How Much Per Search?

Information wants to be free, but delivery can be very expensive!

How much is your library paying for electronic resources, and how much are they being used? Do you ever look at cost-per-search information for your library? Some ERMS (electronic resource management systems) can help you figure that out, but if your library doesn't yet have an ERMS, this webinar will help you get started on looking at ROI yourself. Knowing the cost-per-use of your resources may help in making budgeting decisions, and could also give your library ideas for funding alternatives, such as approaching a particular user community or faculty.

This webinar is an introduction to figuring out the return on your library's investment in electronic resources, using your usage statistics and billing data. During this session, we will discuss pulling together usage statistic and cost information, deriving cost-per-search figures, and how to use your findings.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Collate statistical and cost information
  • Calculate electronic resources ROI figures based on the above
  • Use this information to support library decision-making

A worksheet will be emailed to participants before the session – please be prepared to participate in class discussions.
