Richard A. Detweiler
Richard A. Detweiler is the president of the Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA), an alliance of twelve selective, independent, colleges and universities that works to strengthen learning in the tradition of the liberal arts: creating analytic thinkers and engaged citizens. A number of foundations support the work of the GLCA for programs related to the development of faculty leadership, innovation in pedagogy, the impact of study abroad on student learning, and the creation of a global alliance of liberal arts colleges.
Previously Dr. Detweiler was a distinguished fellow and interim president of the Council on Library and Information Resources in Washington, DC; president and professor of psychology at Hartwick College in New York; and vice president and professor of psychology at Drew University in New Jersey. He also holds an appointment as a fellow at Oxford University’s Harris Manchester College.
Dr. Detweiler is a social psychologist specializing in intercultural relations with advanced degrees from Princeton University (M.A., 1972 and Ph.D. 1973). Rick and his wife Carol served as Peace Corps volunteers in the Eastern Caroline Islands from 1968-70, and as Peace Corps trainers in 1972. Professionally he has been an active researcher, consultant, and author in higher education, intercultural relations, international education, and psychology. He has published dozens of articles related to higher education and also to psychology, and speaks frequently on the future of higher education, the values of the liberal arts, and the role of digital resources in education. He has been deeply involved in technology and higher education and has made many presentations at conferences in the U.S. and abroad on issues related to the use of information technology in education. He was the recipient of the Carnegie Mellon University/AMS Award for Achievement in Managing Information Technology for his early contributions to the innovative use of computer and communications technology. He was a founding dean of the higher education Frye Leadership Institute, and has served as a board member of many higher education organizations.
Zsuzsa Koltay
Zsuzsa Koltay is Special Projects Librarian at Cornell University Library. She is the leader of a complex and fast paced visioning and implementation project to update Cornell University Library’s web presence and the way the library presents the information landscape to its users. Her past roles, also at Cornell, include Acting Director of the Engineering Library and Coordinator of Electronic Publishing and founding project manager for Project Euclid. Her overarching interest is user centered design of systems and services in libraries.
Mary Catherine “Kitty” Little
Prior to her appointment as Director of Technical Services at Queens Library in July 2005, Ms. Little worked in several capacities at the Central Library, Jamaica. Ms. Little has worked in the Extension Services and in the Programs and Services departments as well as in Administration before she became Coordinator of Collection Development in February 2003. Before becoming a librarian, Kitty ran several art galleries in the Southwest. In addition to her M.L.S. degree from the University of Arizona, Ms. Little earned the M.P.A. degree from New York University.
Jessamyn West
Jessamyn West is currently a community technology instructor at Randolph Technical Career Center, a freelance writer, and a web designer living in Vermont solving technology challenges for schools and libraries. She has been speaking on libraries, technology, and politics since 2003. Her interests lie in how Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 reflect many things libraries are already doing, the digital divide and its effects on library services, the US political climate and legislation that affects library services, rural libraries’ use of new technologies, and the nascent Slow Library Movement and its relationship to Library 2.0.
Robert Wolven
Robert Wolven is Associate University Librarian for Bibliographic Services and Collection Development at Columbia University Libraries. He is a past chair of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging Policy Committee and of the ALCTS Heads of Technical Services in Large Research Libraries. Long active nationally in developments related to metadata and cataloging, he has served on planning and advisory groups for the Digital Library Federation, RLG and OCLC, and as moderator for the CONSER Summit on Serials in the Digital Environment and the Taiga Forum on Shifting Boundaries. He was a member of the Library of Congress Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control, and in 2007 was awarded the Margaret Mann Citation for outstanding achievement in cataloging and classification.
