- How do your new service levels compare to what I am getting now?
Under the new structure, the standard service level is most comparable to what a member receives. Specific features at the standard level include unlimited user support, a deeper discount on Nylink training and consulting, the eligibility to participate in LAND, a statewide ground delivery service, and representation in Nylink Council, our governing body. Additionally, Nylink anticipates expanding its statewide services, and we will consider the standard service level membership the requirement for most if not all new services.
The premium level is intended for institutions who may want to bundle services and who are fully engaged in the member collaborative. This level is also intended for libraries with upcoming training or consulting needs who can take advantage of a $500 professional development credit, one day of on-site training, and the deepest discount on consulting and training. Further, libraries that come in at the premium level are eligible to participate in LAND, and receive an annual 5 percent discount.
The Basic membership level is designed for institutions that have limited or specific needs, but still wish to take advantage of the discounts and other benefits available to Nylink members at the Basic level.
- What is the difference between the Basic membership level and the Standard membership level?
The Basic membership level is designed for institutions that have limited or specific needs, but still wish to take advantage of the discounts and other benefits available to Nylink members at the Basic level. For example, unlimited Nylink user support, which is included at the Standard and Premium membership levels, is not automatically included at the Basic level. If a Basic member wishes to have access to unlimited Nylink user support, an annual user support subscription can be purchased for an additional fee at the discounted rate of $500 ($750 for nonmembers). This would result in total annual membership-related costs of $1450 ($950 Basic membership fee plus $500 discounted user support subscription).
There are also deeper discounts on Nylink training and consulting at the Standard versus Basic level.
Another difference between the Basic membership level and other membership levels (Standard and Premium) is support for Nylink’s ground delivery service, LAND. Eligibility to participate in LAND is available only at the Standard and Premium levels.
- Can I switch member service levels at any time?
- The membership year begins July 1. Prior to July, current members will be asked to select their service level for the year and can not switch service levels during the year. New members can come in at any time and select their service level, which will renew in July.
- Can I purchase a user support subscription at any time?
- Yes. Unlimited user support is included at the premium and standard service levels. Members at the basic service level and non-members can purchase a user support subscription at any time by contacting Nylink. The user support subscription will be pro-rated depending on when you purchase it, and will renew July 1.
- What does the user support subscription include?
- A complete description of what the user support description does and does not include is available (PDF).
- To help me determine how much training my institution has taken in the past, how can I look at our training history?
- Review your Nylink training history via MyNylink. Log on to MyNylink and select “Institution Training History” from the left column.
- What is included with on-site training?
-
On-site training refers to a Nylink staff member coming to your institution to teach a course on the topic of your choice, depending on trainer availability and expertise. The individuals attending the training are from your institution only. The trainer reserves the right to limit class site. The pricing for on-site training does not include the trainer’s travel expenses. This is the responsibility of the institution, based on state rates.
However, at the Premium level, which includes a day of on-site training per year, there will not be a charge for travel for one day of on-site training at this level. Any additional on-site training does not include travel; it is the responsibility of the instructor.
Also, the on-site training that’s specifically for new members includes travel expenses as well.
- Can my institution request on-line training?
- Yes. Nylink will work with your institution for classes you request, regardless of format. For on-line classes and webinars that are not requested specifically by an institution, the cost is per seat, or individual, not per institution.
- What is LAND, and why is membership in Nylink required for participation in LAND?
- LAND is a statewide ground delivery service administered by Nylink that stops at every participating library every day, and delivers thousands of items weekly. Participating in LAND engages you in the member collaborative. Although there is an annual subscription to LAND, Nylink membership further offsets the costs by providing administrative support for LAND and the services surrounding LAND and statewide resource sharing.
- Where does Nylink get its funding?
- Nylink is entirely self-supporting. As a non-profit membership organization, our costs for providing services are covered by the fees for membership, products and services paid by the institutions participating in Nylink. Although Nylink is a unit within SUNY System Administration, Nylink is not subsidized by SUNY or New York State.
