Z39.50 Cataloging Has Been Enhanced To Save You Time And Improve Access!

Non-Latin Scripts in Bibliographic Records

Z39.50 Cataloging now supports non-Latin scripts. Bibliographic records include non-Latin scripts in the 880 fields, as the new default display. If your Z39.50 client supports sending the appropriate values, you are able to change the non-Latin default and display Latin script in the bibliographic records. OCLC has notified local system vendors to make them aware of these changes.

Z39.50 Cataloging will support only non-Latin scripts supported by the MARC-8 character set, which include: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, and Cyrillic. Z39.50 Cataloging does not support Thai, Tamil and other Unicode UTF-8 scripts.

Access to LC Names and Subjects Authority File Records

You can also now search and retrieve LC Names and Subjects authority file records through Z39.50 Cataloging. Use database name: OCLCAuthoritiesLC to search the Authority File. For additional information on searching the LC Names and Subjects authority file records, see the Searching Tips for OCLC Z39.50 Authorities, at: http://www.oclc.org/support/documentation/ z3950/searchauthorities/ .

For additional documentation, and information on configuration for non-Latin scripts see the Configuration Guide on the Z39.50 documentation web site, at: http://www.oclc.org/ support/documentation/z3950/ .
